Houska is traditional bread roll baked and consumed in the Czech Republic. Typical ingredients include wheat flour (but other types can be used), water, yeast and salt. Czechoslovakians ate the bread on Christmas it is very good. When my mom was young her grandma made it for her. I have only had it once but it was very good. This bread is special because my mom enjoyed it as a child and now I can to. Do you have a story like this in your family? A dish or a legacy carried into the New World from the Old, perhaps, and passed like a game of telephone from one kitchen to another? ingredients1 (0.6 ounce) cake compressed fresh yeast 1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)1/2 cup white sugar1 egg, beaten1 teaspoon salt2 cups scalded milk6 cups all-purpose flour1 pinch ground ginger1 pinch ground mace1/8 gram dried orange zestOrganic Navel Oranges More Ideas & Recipes for Oranges1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup golden raisins1/2 cup candied mixed fruit peel1/2 cup blanched slivered almonds1 egg yolk1 tablespoon milk2 tablespoons confectioners' sugarAdd all ingredients to list
