The Rock Palace
My object is called Dar al-hajar or you would call it The Rock Palace, in English. When my great grandparents came to America, they brought a statue that is a copy of the Rock Palace from Yemen. Then they passed it down to my family. Finally, it came to me. They started building the real Rock Palace in 1786 and finished in 1930. It took builders a long time to complete the structure. The Rock Palace was a royal palace for the ruler of Yemen, Yahya Hamiddin (1869-1948) . This palace was built on top of a huge rock for Hamiddin’s summer residence . After his assassination in 1948 the palace became a museum for visitors/tourists . The Rock Palace is made out of stone and mud. The Rock palace is a monument of my country Yemen. The Rock Palace is also a symbol of hope/freedom. The Rock Palace, in Yemen, has been visited by father since my great grandparents have come to America. I chose this object because it means a lot to me, my family and my country Yemen.
