Our Family Book
My artifact that has been in my family is a book called Rosie the Courageous Crybaby. It is a book that my family cherishes. It was made by my great-great-great-great grandma Fannie .S Adkins Jefferson. The book was made in Africa. The cover of the book has red, green, blue, black, and yellow. The colors are important to the African culture. This book has been with my family for a century. The book is kind of like ancestry.com, because it shows me and my family’s ancestors and the author’s history back to 1801, also the book tells us about New York in 1800-1900. Our whole family on a special occasion we would read it together and take each chapter at a time, since this book goes way back it shows us what was going on over the years like war, the government, economy. So what’s inside the book is the life about Fannie, like her illnesses her family her kids her struggles in life. Also the book shows the ‘holy bible’ but it’s fake, all it has is a lot of papers with angels on it, in the ‘bible’ it says Fannie’s name on it and her time and day of her birth, and other family members like her uncle, aunt, grandma, grandpa, parents and cousins. It also shows her journey for immigration like the conditions on the boat in the boat and what it was like leaving the boat. This book is very important to me and my family. I will forever cherish it.
