Mayan Flask (bottle)
My object is a bottle or flask made out of clay decorated with a Guatemalan god and goddess. People from Guatemala believe in many gods and goddesses. It represents when I was adopted and brought to America. The bottle is brownish - orange and partially white. Guatemalan people traditionally use the bottle for drinking. I am the first to have it and it could teach someone about the Guatemalan god and goddess. The goddess is Itzchak. Our culture believes in both gods and goddesses. Many people worship them and pray to them daily. I chose this object because it reminds me of when I got adopted and introduced to my new family, new home, and new traditions. I learned that the bottle is a piece of Mayan pottery from long ago. Mayan pottery is mostly made of clay and clay slips. My family and I now have the bottle/flask on a shelf in the dining room. It reminds me of where I come from and the struggles we faced coming to America.
