Jolpie Acer
My mom emigrated from Bangladesh to America on February 6, 2015. The name of my mom’s object is Jolpie Acer (Olive pickle). It is a name of a special pickle that we normally make in Bangladesh to add to the flavoring of the food we eat. The specific reason why my mom my mom chose this acer (pickle) as the object is because, when she came here, she realized how special this pickle is since we couldn’t find it any where either to buy nor could we find anyone who knew how to make it. At the beginning, we had no idea where to go to get the ingredients for making this pickle. Eventually we found a place that sold all ingredients from Bangladesh. This object represents the changes and the triumphs we have had as we learned to adjust to the life in this country.Jolpie Acer is a traditional food that we add to rice. The people from our country add this pickle as a relish to spice up the dish of rice. Some people even think that this dish is ageless. That means nobody knows who introduced this kind of pickle into our traditional food. Whenever my mom eats this pickle she thinks of her mother-in-law because the olives from the tree from her backyard were used to make the pickle. Recipe:Cut the olives.Boil the pieces for 10 to 15 minutes.Wipe them dry. Put the olives in a big pot. Then add the spices. The spices are: ginger, garlic, red pepper, and tamarind. Add extra sugar or salt to taste
