Jade Bracelet
My artifact is a Jade bracelet. My mother got it when she was nineteen. My grandmother got her own when she was a child. It means a lot to my family, especially my mom’s side of the family. It is common for Asians to own some type of jade artifact. My family is mostly Vietnamese. Jade symbolizes wealth and power. It means a lot to the Asian culture. People in Asia have been treasuring jade for a long time. A long time ago, Emperors owned jade everything. Jade hardware, silverware, and more. Since it symbolized power and wealth (which is the definition of emperors) they had to own the most, and the best. Why is it important to my family? Well, to connect it to our immigration study in school, my grandmother brought her own on the journey to America from Vietnam. It must have been important because it was one of the only things she brought to America besides clothes, some money, and pictures. Infact, she still has it! My mother decided to get her own (which is in the picture) when she was nineteen. Maybe someday I will get my own jade bracelet. Jade items are a tradition not only in our family but in many families from Asian decent.
