Italian Sprinkle Cookies
I'm going to tell you about one of my favorite family recipes, Italian Sprinkle Cookies. My object story is sort of odd and funny for several reasons. First, I have absolutely zero Italian heritage. Second, the recipe was “borrowed” from Taste of Home. And third, my family has no discernible ethnic identity other than American because we've been in this country for so long. Since as long as I can remember, Sprinkle Cookies have been a part of every Christmas celebration in my family. As a child of about 8 or 9, I remember my mother lovingly teaching me each step for these delicious, albeit labor-intensive treats. Before that time, I was still able to be involved in the baking process by dipping the globe-like cookies into a sticky, sweet glaze and covering them with colorful sprinkles. Since high school, I have taken it upon myself to be the sprinkle cookie maestro, ensuring enough cookies are baked for all of my upcoming holiday functions. These light, almond/lemon flavor cookies are always a crowd pleaser. Now as an adult, I unfortunately live in an apartment without an oven. But these cookies are so special to me that I find a way to make them, and have already passed down a love of them to the next generation of my family.
