Haitian Pilon
Haitian Pilon
My object is called a pilon. It comes from Haiti. My grandma uses it to crush spices for seasoning food. Haitians use it to make their food flavorful. The pilon is made out of many things like wood, stone, and metal.
I chose it because it reminds me of my grandma and my culture. It teaches me that Haitian love celebrating with food and also showing love with food. My mother’s, mother and father are Hatian, my grandparents. They are proud of their heritage and have raised me to feel pride for my heritage. The way they do this is through food.
I want to try to go to Haiti when I’m older. I’d love to visit the country of my grandparents. So, I can discover more than just the food of my heritage.
