Churi
My object is a Churi(chu-ree). It is like a bangle, but thin and decorative. It is from South Asia as many women wear it there. It is used for everyday life and for special occasions. It’s a girl ornament but boys also wear it in Indian culture. It is usually made out of metal, plastic, gold, silver etc. In Bangladesh it’s more of a everyday thing but in America, Bangladeshi people use it usually on special occasions. Toddlers and infants usually wear the gold/silver ones.
My mom got it for me. She has gotten many but this one has a different design. It teaches me that my culture can be very creative. It is connected to my mom. She immigrated here when I was 1 and a half (2009).
I have always wondered who made the concept or the idea of the churi. Who decorated the churi with all the intricate designs on it.
