Christmas Cake Recipe
My object is a Christmas cake recipe. The recipe makes a big brown cake about the size of a big dinner plate. It is a rich fruitcake covered in a layer of marzipan and royal icing decorated with Christmas decorations such as snowmen, plastic trees, and Father Christmas. The cake itself contains butter, sugar, flour, sultanas, raisins, dates, ground almonds, chopped nuts, glace cherries, chopped peel, salt, vanilla essence, almond essence, mixed spice, eggs, and sherry. The recipe is a traditional handwritten English recipe passed down throughout my family from my grandma’s step mom’s mom. We make this cake every Christmas. The cake is important to our family because in the past dried fruit was expensive, and this cake was a huge treat that everyone saved up for and looked forward to every year. Even though this recipe was passed down from my English heritage, which is a lot different than my dad’s Indian heritage, his whole family still loves and looks forward to the cake every year. This makes it even more important to our whole family. This recipe is important to my family’s identity because every Christmas we eat this cake. Even though the ingredients aren’t as expensive as they used to be the cake represents the hard work and accomplishments we have every year.
