This broach belonged to my grandma and she wore it when she first came to America. The women in my mother's family pride themselves on their hijabs and wear them proudly. My grandmother brought her favorite accessories with her when she came to the U.S from Bangladesh in 1991. My grandfather bought it for her on their 20th wedding anniversary. My mother grew up with the same tradition. She wore her hijab just like her mother and always wore a matching broach or pin to bring the two sides of the scarf together.
